In need of somewhere to live?
All sorts of people stay at the YMCA; men and women, young people studying or working locally, visitors from all over the world and up to 40 supported residents.
Supported residents must- be 16 – 30 years old
- be in need of accommodation and
- have a local connection. (Either the resident has lived locally for five years or has a close relative living within the Guildford borough.)
Application to live here should be made through Guildford Borough Council’s Housing Department. (Contact details below). You do not have to be in paid employment to stay at the YMCA as you may be entitled to receive Housing Benefit to help with accommodation charges (providing you are referred in by the local authority). (In order to claim Housing Benefit you would need to be on another benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance.)
You may stay at the Y Centre, Bridge Street , for up to 2 years and a further 18 months at Midwey House, Wharf Road, our move-on accommodation of 13 self-contained flatlets.
Whilst living at the Y you will be supported by a dedicated member of the Supported Housing Team, who will help you to:
- be healthy
- stay safe
- enjoy and achieve
- make a positive contribution
- achieve economic well-being
Together you will work out a personal support plan to help overcome barriers and gain confidence, so that you can find training or employment and your own permanent accommodation. Within the Housing Team we also have a Benefits Administrator who can help you with financial matters.
