Capital Appeal

Guildford YMCA needs £500,000...

...to build a dedicated new youth venue in the centre of Guildford, supporting hundreds of young people through periods of change in their lives. This is needed because:

  • There is growing demand for housing homeless young people, the majority of whom are under 18 years of age
  • 1 in 5 young people cannot find employment and require support to engage in education and training
  • Most homeless young people have no qualifications and lack social skills and so are very unlikely to find employment unless they receive help
  • There is a need to get young people off the street and into a safe environment so they can be encouraged to make positive choices for their future

We offer a unique approach. Each young person receives personal support and encouragement tailored to their particular needs. Each youth worker develops a trusting, non-judgemental relationship that offers consistent support for as long as it takes.

We have the people to do this but we need much better facilities to do it to the highest standards.

Supporters have already made pledges and donations - we are grateful and glad to announce that...

the amount donated and pledged to date* is

£126,402**

* last update 14.02.12
** total includes Gift Aid where applicable

Capital Appeal Pack

If you would like to receive more information we will happily send you a Capital Appeal pack. This contains some background information on what we currently do to support young people, a few of their stories, and our plans to redevelop the basement level of our Bridge Street hostel. This will enable Plantation, our youth venue currently located off Market Street, to relocate into a dedicated, well designed space when the lease expires next year.

The redevelopment will also include a purpose built space for our referred residents at Bridge Street. At present sessions with support workers are carried out in our public restaurant, and residents only have their bedrooms in which to socialise. A Residents' Resource area will allow for recreation facilities as well as work stations for job search and CV development. The support staff team will be able to work alongside residents in a more effective way.

How your business can help

The history

We know that raising the money required is a huge ask. The Trustees of Guildford YMCA have committed £100,000 from Reserves to kick start the appeal and each Trustee has also made a significant personal donation. Could you help them to make our plans a reality?

Making a donation

There are several ways to make a donation. You can either:

Request a Capital Appeal pack which contains donation forms for either a single donation or a standing order.

Send a cheque (made payable to Guildford YMCA Ltd) to Mrs C McSween, Guildford YMCA, Bridge Street, Guildford, GU1 4SB. Please mark the envelope clearly PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL and that it is designated for the Capital Appeal. It would be helpful if you download the Pledge/Donation Form above to accompany your gift.
