Important news about Camp Waverley Woods

Guildford YMCA has been running Day Camps in various forms for well over 10 years. It attracts over 300 children from 8 to 15 years of age each summer and has been highly regarded by those who attended. 

Parents also have been delighted to find such a positive activity for their children over the long summer holidays. However, we have needed to reassess the running of these camps because of a number of factors. 
 

 

  • Our desire to focus resources to respond to increased levels of need among young people, aged 14 to 25, many who are either in danger of exclusion or who are not in education, employment or training.

  • The rising costs and risks associated with running Day Camps, especially with increasingly demanding health and safety regulations which require a new injection of capital funding.

  • A growing number of other organisations that are providing summer activities.

For these reasons we have reluctantly made the decision to cease running Camp Waverley Woods. The decision was not taken lightly, and it will be sad to see Camp Waverley Woods finish.

If any other organisation is interested in taking on the responsibility of running these camps, we would be more than happy to discuss the possibility of doing so.
